Meet Our Pastor
"Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season."
(2 Timothy 4:2, LSB)
Welcome to our page! I'm glad you stopped by to learn about our church. My name is David Green, and I am the pastor. It is a great blessing from God to be saved by His amazing grace, and what a joy it is to be a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to pastor Sovereign Grace Baptist Church here in Southeast Georgia.
I was born in Southern Ohio on February 7, 1981 and raised in northern Kentucky/southern Ohio. On April 5, 1992 I was born again after hearing the gospel preached during the Bible Conference hosted by King's Addition Baptist Church in South Shore Kentucky where my Grandfather (James Hobbs, Sr.) was pastor. I remember the guilt and the terror of hell being so real, and the only hope I had was in the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord my burden was lifted and I was saved! Not long after, I was baptized and joined King's Addition Baptist Church.
In April 1996, after spending some time with some missionaries from Papua New Guinea, I felt the call to preach. When I spoke to my grandfather about it, he said "Oh no, get out of it if you can!" I couldn't, and surrendered to the call and began preaching.
From late 2001 until the middle of 2005, I labored as a missionary in New Mexico, first out of Grace Baptist Church in Stanleyville NC then King's Addition Baptist Church in South Shore KY. I was ordained under the authority of King's Addition on July 24, 2003.
From November 24, 2007 until August 9, 2020 I was privileged to pastor Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Mansfield, Ohio. That's when I became a member of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Hortense Georgia. The church had extended the call for me to pastor in March that year but it took a while to get everything taken care of in Ohio. My family and I moved to Brunswick Georgia on March 5, 2021. I have been pastor here ever since.
God has blessed me with a wonderful family. My wife, Jill Sanchez and I got married on September 1, 2002. God has blessed us with three children: Leah (2004), Isaiah (2008), and Josiah (2013). So far the two oldest have made a profession of faith and I have been privileged to baptize them. I thank God for all three of our children and pray for them daily.
The Lord continues to work in and through me, for which I am thankful. Here at Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, I've been given a great opportunity to preach and teach God's Word to saints and sinners alike. Whether behind the pulpit in the church building, at home, or in one of our beautiful parks I rejoice every time I am able to open up my Bible. One preacher said one time that the pulpit is the throne for the Word of God. Pastors are to "preach the Word," (2 Timothy 4:2). We are to "feed the flock" (1 Peter 5:2). One of the qualifications of a pastor is that he be "able to teach" (1 Timothy 3:2). I know of no better way to fill that mandate than to take my Bible, open it up to a book, and begin preaching it. That's what I have been doing and by God's grace I'll continue.
Outside of ministry, I treasure the time I get to spend with my family. You might find me fishing along the shore — whether saltwater or freshwater, I'm out there regardless of the results! I've never claimed to be much of a fisherman, but there's something about a line in the water and the quiet of creation that I deeply enjoy. I also have a bit of a fascination with technology and try to keep up with the latest developments as best I can, even if my budget doesn't always cooperate.
